Medieval ArtFest Ardud 2025
📍 July 18–20 | Ardud Fortress, Romania
14th Edition | “Myth. Tradition. Mythology.”
Where myth becomes memory, and tradition comes to life.
The city of Ardud proudly announces the 14th edition of its signature cultural event – Medieval ArtFest Ardud 2025 – taking place between July 18–20, at the historic Ardud Fortress.
This year, the festival is built around an evocative and rich concept: “Myth. Tradition. Mythology.” A concept proposed by artistic director Liviu Pancu, the theme brings together ancient myths, Romanian traditions, and universal mythology – all woven into the spirit of the medieval age.
“We’re not only telling stories from the past – we are reviving the energy of collective memory. Myth is not just narration; it is the pulse of a community’s identity. Mythology meets medieval heritage, and Ardud is the ideal space for this encounter.” – Simina Pop, cultural manager
Over the years, Medieval ArtFest Ardud has grown into a true tradition in Ardud, celebrating the depth of Romanian history and identity through performance, reenactment, music, crafts, and immersive installations. With each edition, the festival has evolved while staying true to its core: preserving and promoting heritage in meaningful, living ways.
This year’s edition is special not only in concept, but also in its European cooperation framework. The event is organized by the Cultural Center “Dr. Augustin Mircea” Ardud and the Ardud City Hall, and is funded through the European project “Connecting Communities, Enhancing Cross-Border Communication from People to People”, in partnership with Hungary.
👉 The festival is organized entirely with European funds and does not include any contributions from the local budget.
Through this cross-border collaboration, the festival fosters dialogue, trust, and mutual understanding both within communities and between them, acting as a cultural bridge between Romania and Hungary.
🎭 What to expect at Medieval ArtFest Ardud 2025:
• Over 100 artists from Romania and abroad
• Reenactment groups, medieval bands, fire shows, open-air theatre
• Living history moments and Romanian traditional rituals
• Artisans, craft workshops, and interactive spaces for all ages
• Special corner dedicated to our partners from Nagyecsed, Hungary, who will showcase their cultural traditions and gastronomy
The Ardud Fortress, a place full of centuries-old stories, becomes more than a location — it becomes a stage where the past is reimagined in contemporary forms, where history, myth, and artistic expression meet.
