Summary

DREAM project aims to address the absence of a direct railway crossing the cross-border region between Szeged and Timișoara, which impacts both passenger and freight transport. The project focuses on developing the feasibility study, environmental and sustainability studies, and other necessary documents to support the establishment of this railway line.

Project Aim

The project aims to establish a robust cross-border transport network, where efficient infrastructure and cooperation enhance mobility, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.

Objectives

✅ Develop the feasibility study and environmental studies for the Szeged-Timișoara railway
✅ Enhance public administration cooperation and resolve administrative obstacles
✅ Promote sustainable transport and reduce environmental impacts
✅ Foster joint initiatives and workshops for stakeholders

Key Activities & Results

🔹 Design Documentation – Elaboration of the Feasibility Study for the Szeged-Timișoara railway
🔹 Environmental Studies – Conducting a climate resilience test, Natura 2000 impact assessment, DNSH assessment, and wildlife survey.
🔹 Workshops and Stakeholder Engagement – Organising workshops to facilitate the elaboration of the feasibility study, technical documentation, and other related documents.
🔹 Joint Railway Investment Plan -  Elaboration of a Joint Railway Investment Plan that includes a technical description of the railway investment, as outlined in the Feasibility Study, along with elements and data related to biodiversity and environmental protection, adopted by line ministries.

By preparing the documentation for a modern railway infrastructure DREAM revitalises transport services in the region. Thus, by the end of the project, the cross-border area aim to be more connected, sustainable, and efficient.
