Summary
HEARTS improves access to medical and social care services for over 6,500 older adults every year in Timiș County (Romania) and Csongrád County (Hungary).
The project develops modern, community-based elderly care through new facilities, equipment, and coordinated cross-border services.
Main investments include a Regional Home Care Centre in Timișoara, the modernisation of the Rehabilitation and Balneotherapy Unit in Kakasszék, and upgraded medico-social centres managed by the Social Assistance Directorate of Timișoara Municipality. Together, they provide integrated home-care, rehabilitation, and day-care support.
Over 200 professionals, doctors, nurses, social workers, and caregivers, cooperate in joint working groups to create cross-border solutions for healthy ageing, inspired by the UN “Decade for Healthy Ageing.”
The project also promotes prevention, rehabilitation, and active lifestyles through public awareness campaigns in both countries.
By combining health and social care efforts, HEARTS builds a sustainable elderly care model that helps seniors live healthier, more independent lives across the Romania–Hungary border area.
