Summary

ENVIREG addresses the growing environmental pressure caused by rapid industrialisation in Timișoara (Romania) and Debrecen (Hungary). The project develops joint tools and methods to monitor pollution and assess its impact on biodiversity and local communities.

Researchers from both countries design an innovative cross-border environmental monitoring and assessment toolkit that uses non-traditional bioindicators such as tree leaves, sap, and apiarian products. These indicators provide a cost-effective way to identify and track pollution in urban and peri-urban ecosystems.

Beyond research, ENVIREG connects universities, students, and local communities through training sessions, workshops, and fieldwork. Participants learn how to collect and analyse environmental data, promoting both scientific knowledge and civic engagement.

The project encourages cross-border cooperation, strengthens the link between science and policy, and supports sustainable industrial growth while protecting ecosystems and air quality.

Project Aim

To develop innovative, science-based monitoring and pollution control methods that preserve biodiversity and improve environmental quality in the Romania–Hungary border area.

Key Activities & Results

🔹 Cross-Border Environmental Monitoring Toolkit: Development of a practical guide and toolkit using unconventional bioindicators for pollution assessment.
🔹 Research and Data Exchange: Joint studies and field analyses conducted by teams from Politehnica University of Timișoara and University of Debrecen.
🔹 Training & Education: Workshops and field sessions for students, researchers, and local stakeholders on monitoring and environmental protection.
🔹 Community Engagement: Involvement of residents, schools, and local authorities in data collection and citizen science initiatives.
🔹 Sustainable Impact: Creation of a cross-border knowledge network that supports cleaner industries and better environmental policies.

Partnership

Lead Partner: Politehnica University of Timișoara (RO)
Project Partner: University of Debrecen (HU)

ENVIREG turns scientific cooperation into environmental action. By combining research, innovation, and community participation it helps build a cleaner, greener, and more resilient border region.
