Summary
CMPLX-WATER aims to promote climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, taking into account ecosystem-based approaches in the cross-border area of Romania and Hungary. The project focuses on increasing the capacity for intervention and response against floods, as well as enhancing water accumulation capacity to counteract the effects of drought. By implementing specific methods in the cross-border territory of Bihor, Hajdú-Bihar, and Békés counties, the project aims to create a modern distribution of water, prevent water damage, and ensure greater operational safety.

Objectives
✅ Increase capacity for intervention and response against floods
✅ Enhance water accumulation capacity to counteract drought effects
✅ Implement ecosystem-based approaches for water management
✅ Promote cross-border cooperation in water management

Key Activities & Results
🔹 Construction and Repair Works – Construct a penstock and water pumping station, repair two under-crossings, and build an annex for operating personnel in the Barcău Valley area.
🔹 Wavefield Feeder Canal Reconstruction – Reconstruct the wavefield feeder canal of the main water outtake in Biharugra.
🔹 Technical Documentation Preparation – Prepare technical documentation for the Sebes-Kettős-Fekete-Körös connecting canal, including environmental impact assessment and water rights permit plan.
🔹 River Regulation and Water Replacement – Conduct river regulation and water replacement interventions in the Ér-main channel section and acquire necessary equipment for maintenance.
🔹 Flood Prevention Works – Implement flood prevention works in the Valea Vițeilor–Barcău rivers area and acquire equipment for diversion channel maintenance.

By integrating modern infrastructure with cross-border initiatives, CMPLX-WATER enhances water management in the region. By the end of the project, water management in the cross-border region will be more resilient and adaptive to climate change.
