Summary
Heritage Tour strengthens cultural heritage and sustainable tourism by expanding and enhancing the Route of Medieval Churches across the Romania–Hungary border. The project integrates the Bihar/Bihor region into an established cross-border heritage network, increasing visibility, accessibility, and cooperation around a rich but lesser-known network of medieval churches. Through restoration works, visitor-friendly developments, and network expansion, the project boosts tourism, strengthens cross-border cooperation, and supports long-term heritage preservation.

Project Aim
To increase visitation, awareness, and cooperation along the Route of Medieval Churches by restoring heritage sites, expanding the thematic route, and strengthening cultural and tourism networks.

Objectives
✅ Rehabilitate and restore historically significant medieval churches
✅ Expand the Route of Medieval Churches to new regions and heritage sites
✅ Improve visitor experience through exhibitions, signage, and tourism services
✅ Strengthen cross-border cultural and heritage cooperation
✅ Increase visitor numbers and participation in heritage-related programs

Key Activities & Results
🔹 Heritage Restoration – Renovation of 6 medieval churches in Hungary and Romania.
🔹 Route Expansion – Integration of 27 new heritage sites into the Route of Medieval Churches.
🔹 Visitor-Friendly Developments – Exhibitions, signage, and accessibility improvements at heritage locations.
🔹 Cultural & Professional Programs – Scientific symposiums, heritage academies, and cycling heritage tours involving at least 235 participants.
🔹 Network Strengthening – Cooperation among up to 49 organisations during implementation, increasing to 60 organisations in the maintenance period.
🔹 Sustainable Tourism Strategies – Joint strategies supporting monument rehabilitation, cycling routes, and digital tools such as a mobile application.

By preserving heritage and expanding cultural routes, HeritageTour transforms medieval churches into living assets for sustainable tourism and cross-border cohesion.
