Summary

MIG - Mobility in Green responds to a shared challenge faced by Ghiroda (Romania) and Bihartorda (Hungary): limited sustainable mobility options, insufficient cycling infrastructure, and the impact of invasive species on outdoor areas.

The project improves sustainable transport by building permanent and temporary cycling routes, introducing an electric bike ride-sharing system with solar-powered charging, and carrying out invasive species removal. Both partners coordinate these activities through joint planning, community-focused outreach, and cross-border cooperation.

Project Aim

To increase sustainable mobility and reduce environmental pressures by improving cycling infrastructure, introducing clean mobility tools, and supporting nature protection actions in the cross-border region.

Objectives

✅ Develop permanent and temporary cycling routes in both countries
✅ Introduce an e-bike ride-sharing system supported by solar charging
✅ Improve outdoor conditions by removing invasive species
✅ Raise public awareness through thematic outreach and events
✅ Strengthen cross-border cooperation through joint planning and long-term strategies

Key Activities & Results

🔹 Permanent Cycling Infrastructure -  Bihartorda (HU)  - Construction of 807 metres of new bike lanes (748 m along an existing main road  and 59 m on a new alignment (without an existing road)

🔹 Temporary Cycling Paths - Ghiroda (RO) - Development of flexible, seasonal cycling routes adapted to terrain, connectivity and community needs

🔹 Electric Mobility: - Development of an e-bike ride-sharing app, installation of solar-powered charging stations, and procurement of 20 cargo e-bikes for both partners

🔹 Environmental Actions: - Targeted removal of invasive species, supported by heavy-duty equipment (terrain vehicles)

🔹 Community Themes & Events - 6 mobility and environmental themes, each concluding with its own event

🔹 Long-Term Planning & Sustainability -  Joint Strategy & Action Plan ensuring continuity of clean mobility efforts in the cross-border area.

MIG delivers practical cycling improvements, clean mobility tools and environmental protection actions, all supported by community engagement and joint long-term planning. The project strengthens cross-border cooperation and helps communities adopt safer and more sustainable mobility habits.
