Organised by the Interreg VI-A Romania-Hungary Programme in partnership with Ţării Crişurilor Museum from  Oradea, the event brought together over 120 participants. It served as a platform to explore the relations between Romania and Hungary, reflect on the shared values that unite us as European nations, and highlight the significance of cross-border cooperation.

The conference opened with remarks from Mr Gabriel Traian Ghilea, Sub-Secretary of State at the Romanian Ministry of Development, Public Works, and Administration, and Ms Ruxandra Țuțuianu, Head of Unit, representing the Programme’s Managing Authority. In their speeches, they emphasized the transformative impact of the European Union and Interreg programmes on the Romania-Hungary border region, underlining how these Programmes have contributed to creating a better and more prosperous living environment. Keynote Address: Adrian Cioroianu

The highlight of the conference was the keynote speech addressed by Mr. Adrian Cioroianu, distinguished historian and diplomat, professor at the University of Bucharest, former Ambassador of Romania to UNESCO, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs. With a captivating perspective on history and geopolitics, Mr Cioroianu highlighted the deep ties between Romania and Hungary, the common challenges, and the unique differences that define us as neighbouring states and EU members.

Key Ideas Presented at the Conference:

  1. Cooperation as a Common Necessity – Mr. Cioroianu stressed that the European Union represents the "shared home and necessity" for Romania and Hungary. In a world shaped by global powers, the EU offers the only viable path for sustainable development.
  2. Valuing Cultural Potential as a Bridge – The importance of rediscovering and promoting our shared cultural heritage, including forgotten works, was highlighted as a means to strengthen cross-border ties and consolidate a shared identity.
  3. Dialogue – A Tool for Overcoming Barriers – An interactive session with the audience reinforced the power of open dialogue in addressing challenges and enhancing mutual understanding.

The conference was more than just a celebration -  it was an opportunity to reflect on how cooperation and solidarity contribute to building a stronger and more inclusive Europe.
