Starting with November 2019, Arad County Council, together with Csongrád-Csanád County Health Care Center - Hódmezővásárhely - Makó is implementing the project ROHU- 361 “Joint prevention and surveillance of infectious diseases and hospital-acquired infections in Arad, Makó and Hódmezővásárhely”.
Csongrád-Csanád County Health Care Center - Hódmezővásárhely - Makó considers hands hygiene a high priority, since both among residents and within in-patient hospital care, the deficiency of hands hygiene shows to be a risk factor in the formation of infections.
To teach proper hands-wash, a state-of-the-art HandInScan device was procured by the Hungarian partner. By teaching and checking the proper way of hands washing and sanitizing, this device plays an important role in reducing the spread of infections.
With the help of the device purchased through the project, trainings were conducted in Domonkos Nővérek Liszt Ferenc Musical Primary School in Hódmezővásárhely and in Szignum Bilingual Ecclesiastical Primary School in Makó. The joint goal of the Hungarian partner, together with the schools, was to promote the proper technique of handwashing and sanitizing.
The trainings were held by 4 people, all qualified health professionals. During the educational process, after sanitizing the hands with an indicator gel, the adequacy of hands-wash was monitored with the help of the hand-scanner.
As a result of the educational process conducted, the following results were obtained:
The training gathered 613 attendees, of which 583 students and 30 teachers. They learned the proper way to sanitize their hands in the frame of 4 training sessions per day. Altogether, during 8 days, the specialized staff spent 24 hours training the attendees from 31 classes.
In Hódmezővásárhely the best-performing class achieved a score of 98% at the correct hygiene of the hands, while the lowest performance was of 85.2%. The most frequently missed areas during sanitizing the hands were the fingertips.
In Makó, the best-performing class managed to achieve a score of 93.3%, while the lowest performance was 68.6%. The most frequently missed areas during sanitizing the hands were the fingers and the dorsal side of the hand.
